Fresh Start Hygiene Drive

We are collecting hygiene and stationary items for people transitioning back into the workforce and society for the holiday season.

The Save Inmates Today Program is focused on reducing recidivism rates throughout the state of Georgia. We need help in providing hygiene supplies to those inmates who are in transitional centers and those who are in short term (about to be released) facilities. These individuals already have jobs in your community, are searching for jobs in your community, or are about to be in the job search phase. These will be your neighbors and friends. The items that we donate are items that these individuals may not be able to purchase for themselves.

We are collecting hygiene items for men and women who are reentering the workforce from jail and prison. These individuals already have jobs in our community or are about to be in the job search phase. We are trying to collect enough hygiene items to give over 700 men and women each a 30 day supply this holiday season. These hygiene items will allow the returning citizens to procure or maintain employment by maintaining healthy hygiene habits. These are the people who are already working in our community in the local Wendy's serving your food or the local Jiffy Lube changing your oil.

These people live in transitional centers or pre-release centers where there is no store or commissary at the facility location. These men and women must rely on family members to send them a box every month with food and hygiene items. The problem is, most of the residents of these facilities do not have any outside support system to send these items every month. The transitional facilities do allow the residents to leave once a month to go shopping, but they are only allowed to purchase a maximum of $100 worth of food and hygiene products to last them an entire month. The residents are only given $50 per week to purchase transportation, food, and phone calls. They must also put aside the $100 out of that money to purchase their food and hygiene items on their once monthly shopping trip. As you can imagine, it can be very difficult to put away $100 when you are purchasing $30 bus cards and buying food daily at work each week.

These residents rely on family or organizations like us to provide these hygiene products. It is extremely important to instill healthy hygiene habits in these residents while they are still in the facilities, so that when they do reenter our communities completely, they will maintain these habits and become productive members of our society. These men and women will be our neighbors and it is our responsibility to help them have a successful transition. Our donations will alleviate the burden from the families, so that they can provide food, clothing, shelter, and Christmas gifts to the children of the residents.

We are looking for full sized hygiene items such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion, deodorant, tooth paste, hair brushes, combs, hair care or styling products and facial care products for women, shaving cream or gel, and shaving razors for men and women. We are also looking for stationary items such as legal pads or composition notebooks along with envelopes for these residents to be able to write home or have legal correspondence with lawyers. Our goal with the stationary items is to promote family reunification which will ultimately lead to a stronger support system and a reduction in crime in our communities.
